Delta farmers report major shrimp losses
Farmers in Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta's Tra Vinh, Soc Trang and Ben Tre provinces are facing huge losses from the return of epidemics on their industrial shrimp farms.
In Tra Vinh alone, more than 3,400 households have reported deaths of more than 300 million shrimp saplings. The province's Cau Ngang District has been seriously affected by the disease, where 5,780 households breed shrimp.
Local experts are investigating the reason for the fatality on shrimp farms. One of the causes was due to farmers releasing shrimp sooner than the appropriate time, due to high prices.
