Food poisoning hits workers in Cai Be

More than 120 workers in southern Tien Giang Province's Cai Be District were hit by food poisoning on Monday afternoon after eating lunch at their work place, the South Korean-owned Dream Mekong Co.

They were taken to the Cai Be District Hospital with symptoms like vomiting, stomach ache, and dizziness. The company producing stuffed animals is located in An Cu village.

Da Nang cracks down on unsafe helmets

Central Da Nang City's Transport Department, police, and members of the Youth Union on Monday began a campaign to check quality of crash helmets worn by motorbike drivers.

An inspection in the downtown area found more than 100 people wearing counterfeit helmets. They destroyed the helmets and sold the drivers quality helmets on the spot at a subsidised price of VND50,000.

Bus fares to rise 40% over holiday

Bus fares at HCM City's Eastern Bus Terminal will increase by 40 per cent during the Liberation-Labour Day holidays on April 30 and May 1.

Sources at the terminal said 70 more buses would ply during the holidays to meet the increased demand for travel to coastal and mountainous resorts like Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, and Da Lat.

Quang Ngai scraps thermal plant plans

The People's Committee of central Quang Ngai Province has decided to call off construction of a thermal power plant on Ly Son Island due to environmental concerns.

The project, started more than two years ago by the Viet Nam National Coal and Minerals Industrial Group, will cause pollution, affecting the province's tourism and services development strategy for Ly Son Island.
