Poor suffer from lack of eye care

Viet Nam now has nearly 1,200 eye doctors working at hospitals in 211 districts, accounting for 30 per cent of total number of districts in the country, according to the Viet Nam National Institute of Ophthalmology.

Due to the shortage of ophthalmologists, many eye care services including prevention of blindness are not being offered to many people, especially poor and disadvantaged citizens.

More than 93,000 submit e-tax declarations

The Viet Nam Tax Bureau has announced that 93,000 people submitted tax declarations via the internet in first quarter of 2012, compared to 80,000 for the whole of 2011.

The bureau said e-tax declarations have been applied in 41 out of 63 provinces and cities in the country.

29,000 city workers to get jobless benefits

Nearly 29,000 laid-off workers in HCM City are entitled to unemployment benefits in the first quarter of this year, according to the city People's Committee.

Of these, 16,803 people have submitted their claims so far, an increase of 8,804 over the same period of last year. The city has approved 11,062 applications, an increase of 1,389 compared to the previous year.
