A Japanese and an American bank have pledged to provide Viet Nam a soft loan of US$270 million to build the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday in Tokyo between the Viet Nam Development Bank (VDB), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Citibank.
The loan will have a term of 15 years.
VDB is in charge of mobilising investment for the project which began in 2008 on a build-operate-transfer basis.

Hand-foot-mouth threat rises in Binh Dinh
The number of people contracting hand-foot-mouth disease is rising in the southern province of Binh Dinh, posing a risk of a fresh outbreak.
There have been 200 cases reported so far, half of them in Phu My District. The provincial Preventive Medicine Centre has discovered 10 hotspots in the district.

More tropical storms to hit VN this year
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has forecast that six to seven tropical storms will hit Viet Nam this year, a higher number than average.
The centre also forecasts the storm season to arrive earlier this year. The season normally starts in May.
An early onset of the rainy season is also expected in the southern and Central Highlands regions.
