Over the last three years, dozens of cultural houses and entertainment centres have opened in 22 remote communes of the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Vinh Long, improving the quality of life in these areas.
The public works were built at cost of more than VND6 billion (US$2.8 million). The province is encouraging local residents to donate their land for building entertainment facilities for their children.

HCM City points to vulnerable landslide sites
Authorities have identified 62 landslide prone sites in HCM City, located mostly in the rural districts of Thu Duc, Nha Be and Can Gio. They have assessed that the sites could easily collapse under the effect of high tides and strong currents. Local authorities have been asked to evacuate households living along riverbanks that face erosion from increased water flows.
The city's Transport Department has undertaken several projects to consolidate riverbanks and minimise the erosion threat.

Da Nang attracts over 200 FDI projects
Preferential policies have helped the central city of Da Nang attract more than 200 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total investment capital of over $3 billion each year. City authorities estimate that FDI enterprises in the city earn about $400 million in import income each year.
The city's six industrial zones have attracted more than 300 enterprises, offering stable jobs for many local labourers.

HCM City's Cho Ray Hospital, one of the region's leading general hospitals, has offered different programmes on endoscope surgery transfer to its hospital partners in Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Pakistan. Since Dr. Nguyen Tan Cuong and his group applied the technology in 1992, Cho Ray Hospital has provided successfully treatment for many patients, including children, nationwide.
