Bac Lieu Province promotes biodiversity

The southern province of Bac Lieu has begun implementing a climate change adaptation project that focuses on protecting and nurturing biodiversity. The project is sponsored by the Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Society for International Co-operation). The 850,000 euro (US$1.1 million) project will be carried out until 2014.

HCM City fears surge in respiratory diseases

The HCM City Health Department has warned that as the weather turns cold, people will be more prone to respiratory ailments including the meningococcal disease (also known as meningococcemia) caused by the neisseria mengingitidis bacteria. It advises people to regularly wash their hands with soap and rinse their mouth with salty water every morning. They are also advised to wear gauze masks and isolate themselves immediately on noticing symptoms of respiratory diseases. The city has recorded 15 patients with meningococcal disease since the beginning of this year.

Can Tho stockpiles $104m worth of goods

The Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade said that it has asked trading enterprises in the city to make plan on storing goods to serve people before, during and after Lunar Tet since the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2011. The reports of 13 large enterprises in the city said that more than VND2.2 trillion ($104.8 million) was spent on storing goods. Moreover, the department also co-operated with relevant agencies to check trading in the city regularly.
