Phu Yen company found dumping waste

The Phu Yen Province environmental police on Monday found MTV House and Urban Development Company based in Tuy Hoa Town dumping untreated waste from garbage dumps in Tho Vuc Commune, Hoa Kien Village, into a nearby stream.

Delta farmer donates land for school

Construction of Dong Hoa 4 Primary School in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang's An Minh District began last week.

The school is being built on a 3,500sq.m plot of land in Dong Hoa village donated by Nguyen Van Hien, a local farmer. Construction of the school, estimated to cost VND800 million (US$38,100), will be financed by VNHELP (Vietnam Health, Education and Literature Projects), a US-based charity.

Employers fail to pay social insurance

Ninh Thuan Province Social Insurance Agency said 262 businesses owed more than VND25 billion ($1.1 million) in workers' social and health insurance premiums by November last year.

The agency has filed lawsuits against five businesses for owing social and health insurance fees.

The provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Labour Federation have been asked to help in persuading businesses to comply with the Labour Law and safeguard workers' rights.

Delta exports 600,000 tonnes of tra fish

The Mekong Delta region last year exported 607,000 tonnes of tra fish for more than $1.67 billion, surpassing the set target by $50 million.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will this year upgrade four centres to produce high-quality tra in Can Tho City and An Giang, Dong Thap and Ben Tre provinces.

Chile wants Vietnamese dragonfruit

Chile has opened up its market to Vietnamese dragon fruit after two irradiation and five packaging factories in Binh Thuan, Binh Duong, and HCM City met the Latin American nation's quality standards, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Last month it approved the lands where the fruit is planted.

Viet Nam exports dragon fruit to many countries, including the US, China, Japan, and South Korea.
