Army shooters grab two golds

 

Sharpshooter Nguyen Thi Phuong of the Army team won gold in the women's individual 50m prone rifle in the first day of the National Top Shooters Championship yesterday.

Phuong did her best to record 584 points in 60 shots, beating off Hai Duong's Nguyen Thi Hoa, who came in second with 581.

Phuong's teammate Nguyen Thi Nhan finished third after scoring 578 for bronze medal.

The Army team added the second gold of the day when Ho Thanh Hai finished first, scoring 581 from 60 shots in the men's individual 10m air pistol.

He saved seven points off Tran Quoc Cuong from Hai Duong, who won silver medal.

Two-time Olympian Nguyen Manh Tuong, 50, from the Ministry of Public Security, just placed third with 573 record.

The tournament, which has drawn 110 sharpshooters from eight teams nationwide, will close next Tuesday.

Cueists fight for national title

The final round of the National Billiards and Snooker Championship will kick off today in the beach city of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province.

The tournament has attracted about 250 competitors from 13 teams competing in nine events including 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball and England billiards.

The final matches is scheduled next Friday.

The event is one of tests to select competitors for the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China later this year.

Binh Duong go top of V-League

Becamex Binh Duong grabbed the V-League's best team title for May after good month.

The team pocketed 12 points from five matches losing just one, a run that saw them take top place in the division.

Dong Thap's Pham Cong Loc won coach of the month while Samson Kayode won player of the month.

The fans chose the 89th minute goal by SHB Da Nang's striker Huynh Minh Tuan in the match against Hoa Phat Ha Noi on May 2 as the best goal of the month.
