Referees strive to earn ITTF status

 

Vietnamese referees will take part in an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) examination to earn world accreditation on March 12-14.

Sealed questions will be sent to Viet Nam from Switzerland.

Entrants must correctly answer at least 48 out of 50 questions in English.

It is the second examination held in Viet Nam in the last 10 years.

None passed the first examination.

At the moment, only Phan Anh Tuan and Nguyen Tien Hung are recognised ITTF referees.

German masters to play in VN

German chess masters will visit Viet Nam to play local players on the 35th anniversary of the formal establishment of Viet Nam-German diplomatic relations.

The German Chess Federation plans to send four male and two female masters on April 16-17.

The visiting team will comprise international grandmaster (IGM) Robert Huebner, the German No 6 seed, Jan Gustafsson (No 4), Daniel Buhmann (No 10) and Daniel Fridman (No 3).

Elisabeth Paehtz, the world U18 champion and U20 champion in 2002 and 2004, and Kestino Kachiani-Gersinske will also be making the trip to Ha Noi.

Among the top Vietnamese players scheduled to play the German visitors are IGM Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Dao Thien Hai, Le Thanh Tu and Pham Bich Ngoc.

Vovinam champs to be held

The National Vovinam Championship will be held on September 16-24 at Can Tho's Gymnasium.

HCM City said it was confident it would retain the title it won last year as its team includes world champions Than Lai Kim Long, Vo Nguyen Linh and Ngo Thanh Dat. — VNS
