Vietnamese referees to work at AFC tourneys
Vietnamese Vo Minh Tri will be the main referee for the match between Kingfisher East Bengal of India and Al Ittihad from Syria in group D of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup today.
The FIFA referee will be assisted by Nguyen Hoang Minh and Nguyen Ngoc Ha.
Viet Nam have two representatives, Becamex Binh Duong and SHB Da Nang, in the AFC Cup.
Tri will then act as the fourth official in the game between Australia's Adelaide United and South Korean side Pohang Steelers of the AFC Champions League's group H tomorrow.
Meanwhile the Viet Nam Football Federation general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan will act as supervisor of the match between Japan's Sanfreece Hiroshima and Shandong Lunenan of China in the same group.
Phung Dinh Dung who is also a FIFA-accredited referee will officiate the match between Australia's Melbourne Victory and China's Beijing Guoan in group E.
Hang, Huyen compete at Asian championship
The fourth Asian Indoor Athletics Championship will be organised over three days starting tomorrow in Tehran, Iran with the participation of two Vietnamese athletes.
Truong Thanh Hang the silver medallist at the third Asian Indoor Games (AIG) last November, will compete in the women's 800m. While Vu Van Huyen will test his skill in the men's decathlon event. Huyen grabbed a bronze at the AIG.
Southeast Asian sprint queen Vu Thi Huong, however, will not join the event as she is too busy with her academic studies.
Young taekwondo artists leave for Youth Olympics' qualifier
The national junior taekwondo team on Sunday will leave for Mexico for the qualifying round of the Youth Olympics which will be organised in Singapore later this year.
There are 10 weight categories ranging from 48kg to over-73kg for men and 44kg to over-63kg for women, with each country only eligible for six events.
Viet Nam hope at least one to two athletes will pass the qualifier which will start on March 3.
After the event, the six-athlete team will compete at the World Youth Taekwondo Championship held at the same location from March 6-9. — VNS
