Chess players to compete in Slovenia

Viet Nam will compete at the World Youth Chess Championship which will take place in Maribor, Slovenia from November 7-19.

The team includes Nguyen Quoc Phap, Ngo Duc Tri, Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien (all representing the boy's Under-8 team), Tran Vuong Mai Khanh (girl's U10), Nguyen Quoc Phap and Nguyen Anh Khoi (boy's U10), Nguyen Dang Hong Phuc and Tran Minh Thang (boy's U12), Le Tuan Minh and Tran Tuan Minh (boy's U16) and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (girl's U18).

Among them, Hung is expected to bring home the bacon as she seeds No 5 in her group with an Elo rating of 2235. She has won Asian gold medals in U14 and U16 categories.

The event will use the Swiss system of 11 rounds. A total of 1,587 young players will participate in the age categories. It is the most important youth chess event of the year, and is expected to draw young world-class talents.-VNS
