Viet Nam steady second in military taekwondo champs

HA NOI – (VNS)Viet Nam stands in second place after two days of competitions at the 21st Military World Taekwondo Championships in HCM City.

The hosts have grabbed three golds, two silvers and one bronze. China are on top with five golds and one silver.

The three golds went to Pham Hoang Phuong Linh in the women's individual poomsae (performance) event, to the trio Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan, Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thi Le Kim in the women's team poomsae and to the trio Nguyen Truong Phuoc Dai, Le Thanh Trung and Nguyen Thien Phung in the men's team poomsae.

Pham Chi Khanh won a silver in the men's individual poomsae. The other silver was obtained by Doan Thi Huong Giang in the women's under-49kg category.

On Tuesday, Cao Thi Kim Chi earned a bronze in the women's U46kg event.

Around 220 military athletes from 34 countries are competing for 24 sets of medals.

This is the first time Viet Nam has hosted such a tournament, the largest of its kind to be organised by the International Military Sports Council.

The week-long competition concludes tomorrow.
