Minh books quarter-final berth in Taipei

Viet Nam's Nguyen Tien Minh yesterday advanced to the quarter-finals of the Yonex Taipei Open badminton tournament, beating Malaysian Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin 21-17, 21-17.

Second seed Minh needed only 40 minutes to win his third round match.

His next rival will be Wing Ki Wong, seeded six, of Hong Kong. Wing beat Yong Zhao Ashton Chen of Singapore 21-16, 21-16 yesterday.

In the women's singles, Vu Thi Trang was eliminated in the first round, losing 7-21, 14-21 to No 3 seed Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong.

The tournament will wrap-up on Sunday with the winners sharing US$200,000 in prize money. — VNS
