Liem invited to defend Spice Cup title

Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem is one of six chess players who have been invited to take part in the 2012 Spice Cup, set to take place from October 16-20 in Missouri, the US.

The five other players include Grand Masters Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, who was the former world junior champion; three-time and reigning champion Ding Liren of China; Csaba Balogh of Hungary; top Filipino player Wesley So and European team champ Georg Meier from Germany.

The winner will walk away with US$4,000, while the runners-up will receive $2,000 and $1,500, respectively.

At the same event last year, Liem was seeded No 1 and took the title.-VNS
