Indonesia cancel pre-tournament friendly

HA NOI (VNS)— Indonesia have cancelled their friendly match with Viet Nam, which was scheduled for tomorrow in Ha Noi.

"The Indonesian football federation has asked to move the match to another day, saying that they met with difficulties related to personnel and some other problems, and we must accept that," said Ngo Le Bang, general secretary of the Viet Nam Football Federation.

"We will discuss the possibility of holding the match on October 16 with them, but many things must be done to ensure the plan," Bang said.

The friendly match is one of several that were planned for the national team in preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Football Federation Cup later this year.

As a result of the cancellation, Vietnamese players will delay their return to training until early October in Nha Trang.

According to coach Phan Thanh Hung, the cancellation has effected the team's plans.

"It is a pity that we will miss a chance to practise," he said. "It is clear that Indonesia face some challenges to miss an international friendly."

"The match is considered a test for us to review ourselves. Hopefully they will commit to a game in October." — VNS
