German to train sportsmen

HA NOI – (VNS) German trainer Achim Ecke will visit Viet Nam next month to give lectures for Vietnamese track-and-field athletes and coaches.

Ecke who specifies in overseas athletics development for the German Olympics Committee will start his course on November 25 and finish it about one month later at Ha Noi's National Sport Training Centre No 1.

During his career, Ecke has lectured at the University of Leipzig and used to be the head coach of the German national track-and-field team.

The course will be a warm-up for a second project between two athletics federations.

The first step, a three-year plan from 2009-11 under Uwe Freimuth, is credited with the successful achievements of the Vietnamese who grabbed their first medals at the 16th ASIAD in Guangzhou, China two years ago. – VNS
