Hosts top table after making splash at swimming tourney

Hosts HCM City ended the day top of the team rankings with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals as the National Swimming Championships kicked off on Wednesday.

Da Nang seized second place after a fine performance from Hoang Quy Phuoc secured a gold in the men's 100m freestyle event in a time of 51:71.

Hai Phong, with one gold and one silver medal, finished the day in third.

The eventual winners will be crowned when the tournament draws to a close on Sunday.-VNS
