Vietnamese competitors make early exit from tennis competition

Vietnamese players failed to progress to the second round at the ongoing Becamex International Tennis Cup in the southern Binh Duong Province.

On Monday, Nguyen Hoang Thien and Pham Minh Tuan, who had both been handed wildcards, battled hard but couldn't progress to the second round of the men's singles event. Thien lost 3-6, 6-7 (4) to Germany's Tom Schonenberg and Tuan was defeated 4-6, 3-6 by Thailand's Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul.

In the men's doubles event, Do Minh Quan and Le Quoc Khanh were beaten 2-6, 3-6 by Schonenberg and Indonesia's Kaza Vinayak Sharma.

Earlier on Sunday, Ly Hoang Nam and Do Minh Quan failed to earn a place in the main rounds of the men's singles alongside Thien and Tuan. Nam could find no way past No 16 seed Chen Hung Jui from Chinese Taipei, who won 5-7, 3-6 while Quan was defeated 6-7, 1-6 by Chen's teammate Liao Fei Yun.

The final of the tournament will take place on Sunday.-VNS
