Despite a great effort, Vo Thanh Tung failed to claim a medal in the final round of the men's 50m backstroke event at the ongoing London Paralympics yesterday morning.

Having qualified on Thursday for the final round with a time of 42.26sec, Tung came sixth out of eight disabled swimmers, recording a time of 43.21sec.

Brazil's DIas Daniel took the gold medal and set a new world record with a time of 34.99sec, while silver and bronze medals went to China's He Junquan and Hungary's Vereczkei Zsolt with times of 36.41sec and 38.92sec, respectively.

Today, Cao Ngoc Hung will compete in the men's 100m javelin, while Tung will part in the men's 100m freestyle event.-- VNS
