VN Paralympians set to shine

HA NOI — Nguyen Thi Hai and Nguyen Thanh Trung will compete today in the London Paralympics.

The Nghe An Province-born Hai will compete in the women's discus throw F57/58 event among 17 other competitors.

Her seasonal and personal best is 28.50m which ranks her 10th in the field.

Nassima Saifi of Algeria is her strongest rival with a personal best of 40.99m, and a season top of 39.09m.

Two days later, Hai will participate in the javelin F57/58 event.

Meanwhile, Trung will contest the men's 100m breaststroke against four others. Trung's time of 1:54.80 makes him the outside chance but he is expected to make the final.

Viet Nam also have two other track-and-field athletes in London. Tomorrow, Trinh Cong Luan will part in the men's javelin and discus throw F54-56 events. Cao Ngoc Hung, the flag bearer, will compete in the men's javelin and discus throw F57-58 events on Saturday.

On Saturday, Vietnamese powerlifter Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan finished her competition in fifth place in the women's under-52kg category with a lift of 104kg. — VNS
