Vietnamese players to compete in Chess Olympiad

Viet Nam will compete in both the men's and women's team events at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey from August 27 to September 10.

In the men's team, Viet Nam will send five International Grand Masters including Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa and Nguyen Van Huy.

As the only Vietnamese player ranked in the World Chess Federation's top 100, Liem will compete in group 1, which includes all the top players.

Five Vietnamese players will also compete in the women's competition, including Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Le Kieu Thien Kim, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, Pham Bich Ngoc and Hoang Thi Nhu Y.

Viet Nam's best result was placed in the top 10 at the Olympiad two years ago.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams from all over the world compete against each other.-VNS
