Liem drops two spots in world rankings

HA NOI – Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has dropped two places from 51st to 53rd in the world rankings, according to the World Chess Federation.

However, International Grand Master Liem, who is a two-time Aeroflot Open champion, has held onto his Elo rating of 2,693.

Magnus Carlsen of Norway topped the world rankings with an Elo rating of 2,837, followed by Armenia's Levon Aronian, with an Elo of 2,816.

Meanwhile, in the women's rankings, Pham Le Thao Nguyen moved up 13 steps, ranking 71st with an Elo rating of 2,393. Nguyen's former Elo rating was 2,378.

In the women's world youth rankings, Viet Nam also has two representatives. Hoang Thi Nhu Y ranks 40th with an Elo rating of 2,228 and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung stands at 56th, with an Elo of 2,197. – VNS
