Quyen wins stage, Hung takes lead

Tran Van Quyen of the Military team won the fifth and final stage of the Return to Truong Son cycling tour yesterday.

The 80km stage took riders from Dong Hoi City to Truong Son National Martyr Cemetery. Determined to win the short stage, Quyen and Yin Chih Wang of Dutch CCN broke away from the peloton after the first 30km. The two cyclists took it in turns to lead the race and opened a five minute gap over the chasing pack.

Quyen sprinted to cross the finish line first in a time of 2:00.23 with an average speed of 39.87kmh, followed by Yin and Tang Tri Hung of ADC Vinh Long-Television.

Although missing out on a podium place Mai Nguyen Hung took the yellow jersey with an overall time of 15:53.47. Hung was in second with a time of 15:53.55 and Ha Thanh Tam of An Giang Plant Protection took third with a time of 15:54.02.

Tam's position helped his team top the rankings with a combined time of 47:42.56, followed by Eximbank HCM City and Dong Thap Domesco Pharmacy.-VNS
