Viet Nam warm-up for AFF Cup

Viet Nam plan to play up to 10 friendly matches in preparation for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup later this year.

Players will be called up in early September under acting head coach Phan Thanh Hung. Their first two matches will be against Indonesia on September 15 and 22 at home and away.

The team will then leave for training camps and matches abroad, and among the destinations, Japan and Slovakia are being considered by Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) officials.

One month later, they will take part in the annual VFF Cup which will involve U22 teams from Iran, North Korea and Turmenistan from October 24-28 in HCM City.

The team will play three more friendlies after the Cup before the AFF tournament kicks off on November 24.

Viet Nam, who are in Group A with Thailand, the Philippines and an unknown rival, are one of the title favourites. — VNS
