Viet Nam out of depth in London swimming

Viet Nam has failed to secure a berth in the swimming competitions at the London Olympic 2012.

No Vietnamese athlete is on the list of qualified Olympic athletes released by FINA, the international governing body of water sports, at the end of last month.

Hoang Quy Phuoc, double winner at Southeast Asia Games, and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, who were the country's top hopes for a ticket to London, are not on the list of "B cut" qualified swimmers who are invited to compete in the games by FINA.

As of now, a total of 15 athletes in nine events have qualified to participate in the London games, a national record for the number of participants in an Olympics event. — VNS
