HA NOI — Viet Nam on Thursday added three more gold medals to their tally at the ongoing Southeast Asian Shooting Federation Championships in Malaysia.

Nguyen Thi Phuong triumphed in the women's rifle prone event with 591 points. She later topped the podium for the second time when grouped with Nguyen Thi Hien and Nguyen Thi Hang in the team event. They earned 1,747 points.

The other title went to trio Tran Quoc Cuong, Hoang Xuan Vinh and Ho Thanh Hai in the men's team air-pistol event. They nabbed 1,632 points.

Cuong missed a gold in the men's individual event when he took a lead in the qualifying round. However, he earned 646.8 points, 1.2 points less than Lin Yao (648.2 points) of Hong Kong in the final. Cuong took a silver.

Earlier, Phung Le Huyen, Nguyen Duy Hoang and Vu Thanh Hung received a silver in the men's rifle three-positions (standing, knee and prone). Olympian Le Thi Hoang Ngoc pocketed a bronze in the women's air pistol event.

After five days of competition, Viet Nam have bagged six golds, 12 silvers and three bronzes, standing at second place.

Host Malaysia took the lead with 10 golds.

The annual tournament will end tomorrow.

Last year, Vietnamese marksmen proved their higher level in the regional tournament with nine gold and one silver medals to take the top place overall. — VNS
