Vietnamese rowers win Asian golds

HA NOI – Viet Nam pocketed five gold medals at the 2012 Asia Rowing Cup which just finished in Singapore.

It is the first time in history that Viet Nam has topped the podiums in the continent-levelled tournament.

This year, the titles went to the men's coxless four light-weight, women's coxless four, women's double scull, women's double scull light-weight and junior men's single scull events.

The Vietnamese also brought home three silvers and four bronzes.

Among the winners, Pham Thi Thao and Nguyen Thi Hai who are going to compete in London Olympics next month fared the best. Thao individually won three golds and one bronze while Hai grabbed two gold medals. – VNS
