Top seeds cruise to next round of national volleyball tournament

Top seeds Phan Thi Cam Hong and Nguyen Thi Tiep from HCM City cruised to a 2-0 (21-6, 21-13) win over Tran Thi Trong and Pham Le Tuyet Ngan from Khanh Hoa in the opening day of the National Beach Volleyball Championships yesterday.

Do Thi Hau and Hoang Thi Huyen from Hai Phong took an easy win (21-4, 21-7) over Da Nang's Pham Thi Vy and Tran Thi Trang.

In the men's side, HCM City's Pham Anh Tuan and Lam Kim Trong struggled to beat Vo Thanh Nhan and Huynh Ngoc Vinh Phuc of Khanh Hoa 21-15, 16-21, 15-9.

Nguyen Trong Quoc and Nguyen Thanh Vinh of Khanh Hoa beat their fellow-countrymen Tran Ngoc Ly and Nguyen Thanh Nam 21-15, 21-19.

The championship, which opened at Da Nang's Dana Beach and Resort, has drawn 44 men's and women's players from 22 teams competing in groups competition for total cash-prize of US$2,800.

The final will be played on Saturday.-VNS
