Minh enters second round at Asia champs

Nguyen Tien Minh is the only Vietnamese entering the second round of the singles event at the Badminton Asia Championship in Qingdao, China.

The world No 10 yesterday defeated Indian rival HS Prannoy 21-16, 22-2–0 in the first round after 39 minutes.

His next opponent today will be Yong Zhao Ashton Chen of Singapore, who won 21-2, 21-2 over Trikishmyrat Poladov of Turkmenistan.

Earlier, Minh's teammates Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen both failed to grab a ticket to the women's single main round.

Today they will pair up to compete in women's doubles against South Korean duo Choi Hey-in and Kim So-young.

On the men's side, Bui Bang Duc and Dao Manh Thang will play V Shem Goh and Khim Wah Lim of Malaysia.-VNS
