Trung aims for a Paralympic berth

Swimmer Nguyen Thanh Trung will have his sights firmly fixed on a Paralympic berth at the British International Disability Swimming Championships that starts in Sheffield City today.

Trung won Viet Nam one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the ASEAN ParaGames in Indonesia last year during his international debut.

His result of 53.50sec in the 50m backstroke passed the 56sec A standard while his time of 2:1.50 in the 100m breaststroke surpassed the B standard of 2:3.00.

The championships, to take place at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, will squeeze 24 events into three days' of action with plenty to look forward to on each day.-VNS
