SEA Games winners given cash

Vietnamese who won gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia early this month received VND5 million (US$220) each from sponsors in a ceremony on Tuesday.

The Lienviet-Post Bank handed over a total of VND1 billion ($45,000) to all medal winners, including silver and bronze.

The squad of over 600 athletes won 96 gold, 92 silver and 100 bronze medals to rank third at the Games which ran from November 11-22.

Athletes will be honoured in an award ceremony next month by the National Sport Administration, at which each gold winner will receive $2,000, silver $1,200 and bronze $1,000.

Viet Nam to host AVC champs

Viet Nam will host the third Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship next year in the northern province of Vinh Phuc from September 1-7, the Asian Volleyball Confederation has announced.

Viet Nam will also host two international women's beach volleyball events next year, including the Tuan Chau Open from April 28-30 and the Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Championships from November 5-9.

HCM City to host tennis tourney

Over 400 players will compete in the 11th Phu My Hung Tennis Tournament played on December 3-10 at the Wonderland Tennis Court complex in District 7.

The tournament includes three competitions: for professionals, semi-professionals and amateurs. The total prize money is VND283 million ($13,000).

The professional section will have three events – men's and women's singles and men's doubles. This section has attracted the participation of 41 men and eight women.

Some notable faces among the male contestants are Do Minh Quan, Ngo Quang Huy and Le Quoc Khanh, while Huynh Phuong Dai Trang, Tran Thi Tam Hao and Tran Lam Anh are among the better known female players. — VNS
