The Women's International Democratic Federation adopts June 1 as International Children's Day for a future of peace, stability and happiness for children. Death of Helen Adams Keller (born 1880), US writer and lecturer. Keller was blind, deaf and mute from early childhood but learned to read, write and speak at the age of seven. She is noted for her work for the blind.
