HAI PHONG (VNS)– A shipbuilding company today launched a 2,400 tonne ship for Viet Nam Marine police. It took nearly 20 months to build in Hai Phong port.

Designed by a Netherlands company and built by the 189 Shipbuilding Company controlled by the Ministry of Defence, the ship will carry out crime prevention at sea.

It will also be used for search and rescue operations.

The 90-metre ship can travel at 17 knots (31km/hour). It is staffed by a crew of more than 70 and is said to be able to weather wind speeds of more than 118km/hour. - VNS
