Vietnamese agencies help ship's crew to return home

HA NOI (VNS)— Vietnamese agencies plan to bring the ship May Diamond Way back to the country. The ship has been seized at Jeble Ali wharf in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Deputy Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) Nguyen Dinh Thanh said the ship was managed by Vinashinlines Company, an affiliate of Vinalines.

Due to financial difficulties, Vinashinlines had not been able to pay the repair expenses incurred by the ship.

There are 19 crew members on the ship, which has been docked in Jebel Ali wharf for over two months. Their identity papers and passports have been kept by the UAE's National Shipping Service (NSS).

The Vietnamese Embassy in the UAE has been working with local relevant agencies to deal with the case and asked the NSS to continue providing crew members with food.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a message to domestic relevant agencies asking ship owners to supply the crew members with necessary funds so that they can return to Viet Nam. — VNS
