Five tourists dead after Ha Long Bay boat crash

QUANG NINH (VNS)— Five foreign tourists are dead after a collision between a tourist vessel and a tender in Ha Long Bay yesterday afternoon.

The Dong Phong 02 tourist boat reportedly crashed into a tender boat carrying 18 Taiwanese tourists in the area of Sung Sot Cave.

The tender boat turned upside down and quickly sank, killing five of the Taiwanese, including a 9-year-old girl.

The tender boat was taking passengers from the cave to the "Paradise" tourist boat where they were due to sleep the night in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh.

Vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee Dang Huy Hau said the province's rescue forces had taken the victims to Bai Chay General Hospital in Ha Long City. The rest were taken to the Lotus Hotel in Tuan Chau Tourism Area.

The case is under investigation. — VNS
