HA NOI – (VNS) Ha Noi People's Committee has asked the Agriculture and Rural Development Department to repair a serious landslide on the Hong (Red) River at Ba Vi District's Dong Quang Commune.

The department also warned people not to pass through the landslide area.

Another landslide is reported to have endangered the lives of 49 families in Hoan Kiem District's Chuong Duong Ward, despite the erection of a stone embankment by authorities.

According to Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, six houses along Bach Dang Road are also in danger of being washed away. Part of one house has already been undermined and washed away.

Vice chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, Nguyen Quoc Hoa, said it was necessary to relocate those in danger.

In Dan Phuong and Hoai Duc districts in Ha Noi, canals have been upgraded to avoid flooding and to provide water for 1,300ha of farm land.

Many parts of existing canals have been built on by residents. Other parts of the canals are being used illegally to raise fish, preventing the natural flow of water. - VNS
