More quakes hit central power plant
QUANG NAM — Another earthquake, measuring 3.4 on Richter scale, occurred yesterday morning at Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant in central Quang Nam Province's Bac Tra My District.
After five earthquakes on Monday evening, with the strongest measuring 4.2, tremors and underground explosions have been recorded for four consecutive days in large areas, including Tra My Town and nearby communes.
As Song Tranh 2 dam was designed to resist eathquakes of up to 5.5 on the Richter scale, the dam is still operating safely, said inspectors from the Ministry of Construction.
According to the Geophysics Institute, the earthquakes were induced by faults under the reservoir running through Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant. — VNS
