Leaks found in Thu Thiem Tunnel

HCM City — Damp patches in HCM City's Thu Thiem Tunnel had been detected and maintenance work to fix the problem was underway, according to the city's Urban Transport Investment and Construction Management Board.

Inspectors discovered the spots after the tunnel opened to traffic last November.

The Obayashi Corporation, the tunnel's main contractor, and Oriental Consultants, a foreign consultant and supervisor of the tunnel, have been commissioned to fix the leaks during regular maintenance work which is expected to be completed this month.

The tunnel, that crosses the Sai Gon River, is the largest underwater tunnel in Southeast Asia.-VNS
