Orangutan gives birth in Dam Sen Park

HCM CITY — A rare Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) which was raised at Dam Sen Park in HCM City gave birth to a male baby, according to the park's animal care group.

At 14 days of age, the baby orangutan was in good condition. The mother is one of the three orangutans raised at Dam Sen Park since 1994.

The Sumatran orangutan, one of the closest relatives to human beings, is one the verge of extinction. — VNS
