Ha Noi plans to flood-proof rural residential areas

HA NOI – Ha Noi will bring more land affected by flooding and landslides into its rural residential area plan so it can provide prevention and mitigation measures.

The local People's Committee said planning was required to reduce damage to people and property during the rainy season.

Landslide and flood statistics show that so far this year 85 households in Ba Vi District and 515 in Son Tay Town had been affected.

Ha Noi Department of Agricultural and Rural Development proposed that local authorities build new houses in safe areas to relocate 515 households living along the Red River in Son Tay Town and 116 households affected by landslides in Co Do, Phong Van, Tong Bat, Chu Minh, Cam Thuong Communes in Ba Vi District.

The department also proposed resettlement of 13 households in landslide affected areas along the Da River in Ba Vi District's Khanh Thuong Commune and 54 households affected by the Tay Phuong Pagoda's landslide in Thach That District's Thach Xa Commune, and 156 households in Gia Lam District.

Local authorities were urged to build stone embankments for people's safety in residential areas prone to flooding and landslides. – VNS
