Mine explosion injures 10 in Ha Noi

HA NOI -- Ten people were hurt in a blast at a gold shop in Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in the capital this morning.

According to initial information, the incident occurred about 11am when a man reportedly tried robbing the Hoang Tin Gold Shop in Ba Dinh District, triggering a mine he had hidden in a carrier bag in the process.

The explosion caused considerable damage to the shop interior as well as to No 122 next door and a nearby motorcycle.

After receiving first aid at local Dien Bien Health Clinic, victims were taken to Saint Paul Hospital.

Clinic Head Doan Khac Bao said most of those involved suffered injuries to their hands and legs alongside headaches.

An official from the Criminal Police Team in Ba Dinh said they had arrested a suspect, thought to be around 20.

The case remains under investigation. -- VNS
