HCM City promotes pursuit of knowledge

HCM CITY (VNS)— The Whole Life Study Week organised early this month in HCM City has helped increase awareness and appreciation that educations is a never-ending but rewarding pursuit, officials say.

Several community and charity programmes were organised to attract people, particularly the youth, of different ages and backgrounds.

More than 14,100 families in 13 districts and communes in the city were recognised by local authorities for encouraging members to keep studying. Hua Ngoc Thuan, deputy chairman of the city's People's Committee, said that people do not just study during school years but spend their whole life studying.

He praised the campaign and said it should be expanded among different social levels, encouraging everyone to study and improve their knowledge and skills. The week was a good opportunity to honour, preserve and promote the traditional fondness for studying among Vietnamese people, he said.

Study encouragement associations are supporting poor students and workers in the Cuu Long (Mekong) River Delta region and HCM City with financial and other help.

They are working with offices, organisations and enterprises to raise funds for awarding many needy and deserving students with full scholarships. — VNS
