Chance to meet Italian novelist Gianrico Carofiglio

HA NOI - (VNS) Literature lovers in the capital city will get the chance to meet award-winning Italian novelist Gianrico Carofiglio, whose latest thriller has been translated into Vietnamese.

Carofiglio will launch his book The Past is a Foreign Country in Ha Noi on Monday. The book was translated by Tran Hong Hanh and it's Vietnamese title is Qua Khu la Mien Dat La. Known as a psychological thriller, it explores some of the dangers and temptations faced by youth in modern society.

The book's English translation won the 2005 Premio Bancarella Italian literary award. This award first honoured Ernest Hemingway in 1953 for his novel The Old Man and the Sea.

"We are very happy to meet the famous Italian writer Gianrico Carofiglio, who is coming to Viet Nam for the first time," said Italian Ambassador to Viet Nam, Lorenzo Angeloni. "I believe that his original style will seduce new readers who can be added to the long list of his fans."

Gianrico Carofiglio is among the most famous and widely read contemporary novelists in Italy. A former anti-Mafia judge in the Italian city of Bari, he is known for psychological thrillers. His works have been translated into 24 languages and adapted into movies.

He will meet with the public at 5pm on Monday at Trung Nguyen Coffee Creativity Space, located at 52 Hai Ba Trung Street, Ha Noi. VNS
