HA NOI (VNS) — Singer of the Year 2011 Tung Duong will dedicate his Ha Noi Opera House live show tomorrow to love songs by famed Vietnamese composers.

During the performance, dubbed Tung Duong Sings Love Songs, the singer, who has been named "Divo of Viet Nam", will perform songs by "masters" of Vietnamese music, including Trinh Cong Son, Van Cao, Doan Chuan, Tu Linh, Ngo Thuy Mien and Pham Duy.

Duong became known for his "odd" performing style, a unique mixture of rebelliousness and experiment, and seems to break conventional rules whenever he is on stage.

However, the singer, who turns 30 on September 18, said he will present himself as a sweet and romantic man when he performs in the forthcoming live show.

"Through this performance, I want to break the image of me being an ‘odd' artist. I want my audiences to welcome me as a singer of the ballads and love songs," Duong said.

Besides the songs by veteran composers, Duong will also sing tunes from greats such as Thanh Tung, Tran Tien, Phu Quang, and Do Bao.

In addition, world famous songs including When I Fall in Love, Greatest Love of All, and I Will Always Love You will be featured by the singer.

According to Duong, although the songs have already been performed successfully by other singers, he believes he can bring his personality distincive style to create something fresh and exciting.

Diva Thanh Lam and young singer Nguyen Thao will be special guests during the show and will sing a duet with Duong.

Another special guest of the show will be famous contemporary painter Le Thiet Cuong, who will showcase on stage the art installation Love Tree to support the theme of the show.

Duong, who shot to fame in the beginning of 2004 after winning the singing contest Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star – Rendezvous), quickly became one of the country's top singers.

A graduate of the National Academy of Music, he is experienced in various genres, including jazz, folk and pop.

The star won the Devotion Prize's Singer of the Year in 2004, 2010 and 2011, while his albums Nhung O Mau Lap Phuong (The Coloured Cubes) and Li Ti (Tiny) sealed the Album of the Year award in 2007 and 2011, respectively.

The show Tung Duong Sings Love Songs takes place at the Ha Noi Opera House on Saturday and next Tuesday at 8pm, before travelling to HCM City in December. — VNS
