Thousands to watch second DJ contest in Viet Nam

HCM CITY — A biennial competition that shows off the talent and skills of the DJs in the country – the Viet Nam Digital DJ Battle 2012 – will take place at the Windsor Plaza Hotel from August 15 to September 8.

More than 200 DJs from all parts of the country are expected to participate in the competition this year. The contest will be watched by thousands of people every night, organisers have said.

The judge panel will comprise world-famous DJ JoshM from Singapore and three top Vietnamese DJs Hoang Anh, Dinh Stanley, and Ngoc Bo Doi (Ngoc Soldier).

The winners will automatically qualify and represent their countries at the Asia Pioneer Digital Battle – an international "Battle of the Champions" from participating Asian countries – in Thailand on September 21.

DJ, or disc jockey, is a Jamaican musical term from the 1950s, but its current form and meaning developed after it was imported into the US from end of the 1960s.

In Viet Nam, DJs began becoming popular in the late 1990's. The first Viet Nam Digital DJ Battle took place in 2010.-VNS
