City readies month of promotions

HCM CITY — HCM City will have its annual promotion month in September with around 750 businesses expected to participate and offer discounts and freebies, the Department of Industry and Trade has announced.

Le Van Khoa, deputy director of the department, told the media on Monday that the sale programme, organised by his department together with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was aimed at promoting consumption, thus boosting production and economic growth.

It was also in response to the ongoing "Vietnamese give priority to Vietnamese products" campaign, he said,

To kick off the promotion month, a fair will be held from August 30 to September 3 at the Phu Tho Stadium in District 11, with 250 companies showcasing products like garments, electrical and home appliances, and electronics and services.

There will also be smaller fairs targeting workers in industrial parks, consumers in rural areas, and university students, including at Tan Thoi Hiep and Vinh Loc IPs and the HCM City universities of Agriculture and Forestry and Industry.

Last year, 700 companies took part in the promotion month, offering discounts, gift, and lucky draws worth VND360 billion (US$17.3 million), up from 608 companies and VND296 billion in 2010. — VNS
