Rubber company sees decline in profit

BINH PHUOC — Dong Phu Rubber Co (DPR) earned VND457.3 billion (US$21.8 million) in the first six months of this year, just 67.9 per cent of the level achieved in the same period last year. Profits declined 45.4 per cent during the period to VND160 billion ($7.6 million). The company estimated sales volume at around 6,400 tonnes, slightly higher than last year, but inventories mounted to 2,500 tonnes, more than two times higher. Rubber prices averaged VND70.7 million ($3,400) per tonne, just 73 per cent of last year's average price in the corresponding period. — VNS
