Da Nang to open more bus lines

The central city of Da Nang has approved a project to open six more Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines in the 2012-15 period with an investment of around US$37million sourced from ODA funding, increasing the total number of BRT lines in the city to 11 by 2015.

Since the beginning of this year, nearly 300 new businesses have been set up and 343 have shifted to other kinds of business in northern Ninh Binh Province with a total registered capital of nearly VND6 trillion (US$284.3 million), according to the province's Department of Planning and Investment. In addition, the province has also issued licenses for 14 projects with a total capital of more than VND4.3 trillion ($203.7 million), of which four are FDI projects with a total capital of over VND3 trillion ($141.1 million).

PM backs vehicle weighing scheme

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a scheme to build 45 stations that check the weight of vehicles on roads nationwide in the 2012-20 period. The estimated project cost of VND6.5 trillion ($308 million) will be sourced from the State budget and other sources.

Viet Nam cashes in on telephone exports

Viet Nam exported telephones and spares worth $1.22 billion last month, chalking the total value in the first nine months of the year $8.63 billion, 2.2 times higher than the corresponding period last year. Major importers of these products from Viet Nam are the EU ($3.72 billion), United Arab Emirates ($1.04 billion) and Russia ($520 million).
