VTV4 programmes to be aired in Cambodia

The Viet Nam Television and Cambodia-based Royal Media Entertainment Corp have signed a cooperation agreement to broadcast VTV4 programmes in Cambodia for Vietnamese residing in Cambodia, beginning on Wednesday.

Number of foreign workers in city rises

The number of foreign workers in HCM City has increased substantially since 2009. The city's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs issued 3,247 labour licences in 2009 and 7,973 in 2011. For the first six months of the year, 2,289 labour licenses were issued.

Twenty-four per cent of the licences are for workers from mainland China and Taiwan, followed by South Korea (14.38 per cent) and Japan (8.94 per cent), according to the department.

Timber exports reach $2.5bn

Timber exports reached around $2.56 billion in the first seven months of this year, a jump of 21.9 per cent over the corresponding period last year, meeting 60 per cent of this year's target, according to the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (HAWA).

HAWA anticipates that export growth of wood and products made of wood will reach 20 per cent this year, or more than $600 million higher than this year's target.

Da Nang to build workers' apartments

The People's Committee of central Da Nang City has approved a project to build apartments for workers at industrial parks in the city with an investment of VND1.215 trillion (US$58.4 million) sourced from the state and city budgets.

Under the project, the city will build apartment buildings at the Hoa Khanh Urban and Industrial Area, Hoa Hiep 4 Resettlement Area in Lien Chieu District and Hoa Cam Industrial Park, with a total area of 67,407 sq. metres.

The nine-storey buildings will include apartments, canteens, gardens and sport areas. The project is expected to be completed by 2015.
