Da Nang needs storm haven for boats
The Da Nang People's Committee has sought financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to build a new storm haven.
The existing Quang Tho centre can accommodate only 800 boats while the city has a fleet of more than 1,300.

Call to stop burying solid waste
Environmental experts have pointed out that 60 per cent of the 61,000 tonnes of solid waste generated every day around the country is buried instead of being classified and processed.
Nguyen Xuan Huynh, deputy general director of the Ha Noi Urban Environment Company, said, burying waste was not an environmentally friendly method.
The problem was that big cities like HCM City—which produces 7,000 tones a day— lack the funds required to create infrastructure for solid-waste classification systems, he added.
Local authorities are seeking investment from more sources and greater use of technology to improve waste treatment.

Kon Tum supports ethnic students
The Kon Tum Province People's Committee will earmark VND35.6 billion (over $1.7 million) to support more than 10,000 Ba Na, Xe Dang, Gie Trieng, and Gio Rai ethnic students studying in schools in eight districts.
The money will help them continue their studies.

HCM City population to top 8.6m by 2015
HCM City will have 1.2 million more people by 2015. Its current population of nearly 7.4 million does not include one million migrant workers.
The city is facing difficulties in population management with the number of permanent residents increasing by 3.5 per cent a year. They have an average life expectancy of 75.1 years.
A 2011-15 population and healthcare plan highlights population control, healthcare, and family planning problems, and calls for providing healthcare and better attention to migrant workers and people with disabilities and HIV.
